EIA of Infrastructure and Development: AN ONLINE TRAINING

The Build Build Build Program of the National Government has boosted the Development and Construction of many Infrastructure Projects and Undertakings in the country. It is well known that Projects or Undertakings have cumulative and/or residual impacts. And to mitigate these environmental impacts, effective environmental management planning tools should be integrated, and among which is environmental impact assessment (EIA). The fundamental objective of environmental assessment is to ensure that before irrevocable decisions are taken on a proposal, full consideration is given to its potential environmental effects and the views of those who may be affected by it. Environmental planning, including the assessment of the environmental impact of development projects, has been made mandatory in many countries across the globe.

In the Philippine landscape, PD 1586 or Philippine Environmental Impact Statement System provides the legal framework for an integrated approach to environmental management. This highlights the demand for and relevance of our Sanitary Engineering Profession. Hence, we are at the forefront of implementing proper and effective environmental impact assessment since we are professionals mandated by RA 1364 to ensure the water, sanitation services, and environmental protection are properly managed.

Keeping this in view, the EIA online training program is designed to introduce the concept of EIA, salient historical and legal backgrounds, outlines, and methodology adopted in the Philippines, placing it within the framework of sustainable development.
